Hazel & Ruby: Travel Canvas >>> Wrap-it Up Paper and Stencil-Mask

The three travel mini canvas set can be displayed on mini easels or hung on a wall. The re-usable Chevron pattern Stencil-Mask is easy and convenient to use: simply place design, apply embossing or texture paste with a palette knife and wipe clean. As the stencil-mask is re-usable, one can place the chevron strips at the desired distance from each other. I placed the stencil-mask over all three blocks to along continuity of the design across all three blocks.

You will need the following supplies to create the travel canvas:

  1. Wrap It Up Paper Roll: Maps of the World
  2. Stencil-Mask: Chevron Pattern
  3. Die-Cutting machine and globe die
  4. Distress Paint: Broken China and Walnut Stain
  5. Distress Ink: Walnut Stain
  6. Mist Sprays:
Ranger Perfect Pearl Mists – Kiwi and Blue Patina
Prima Color Spray –  Soft Teal and Cobalt
  7. Perfect Pearls Pigment Powders: Turquoise and Bronze
  8. Embossing Paste and palette knife
  9. Small canvas block
  10. Micro glass beads
  11. Liquid glue

Begin with covering the one canvas block with the Maps of the World Wrap-it-Up paper. I selected an area on the paper that best suited a place I have travelled to. Ensure that you cut enough paper to cover the sides of the block and onto the back of the canvas block. It is recommended that you adhere the paper to the canvas with a liquid adhesive like Ranger Multi-Medium or Glue-n-Seal. Place all three canvas blocks on a craft sheet, aligning top edges. Place the Chevron Stencil-Mask strips across all three blocks. Apply a thin layer of embossing paste with a palette knife between the chevron strips. Carefully remove the stencil-mask and clean with water. While the embossing paste is still wet, add micro glass beads to the embossing paste. Set aside to dry.

When dry, apply turquoise acrylic paint to some areas where there are beads and onto the canvas.  Lightly spritz with different mists and sprays. This will blend with the paint, creating puddles of color. While still wet, add Perfect Pearl Pigment Powders to areas and heat set with a craft heat tool. Lightly ink the edges of the blocks with Walnut Stain Distress Ink. Set aside. Cut or use pre-cut chipboard letters and paint with brown acrylic paint. Adhere letters to the canvas and add gold enamel dots.

Lightly spritz onto the block covered with the map paper. Die cut a globe from chipboard or Grungepaper. Paint with turquoise and brown acrylic paint. Lightly spritz with mist and sprays to blend paint. While still wet, add Perfect Pearls Pigment Powders, applying more in selected areas to create texture. Heat set with a craft heat tool. Lightly ink edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink. Die cut a second globe from gold foil paper or adhere Gold 4” DIY Décor Tape to a piece of chipboard and die cut a globe. Use just the continent section of the globe and adhere on top of the correlating continent inked chipboard shape. Apply liquid adhesive to three different areas on the globe die cut and sprinkle with glass beads. Adhere globe to third canvas, with a section overlapping the right-hand side of the canvas block. Add gold enamel dots to finish.

Your travel canvas blocks are ready to display either on a wall, table or desk.
